Wellness, as a person centered
orientation, relies heavily on the concept that the individual is aware of
his/her strengths and needs. However there is often little encouragement or
expectation for the individual to self reflect or take a holistic personal
inventory or to convey their awareness with their health practitioner.
After taking a moment to reflect on my own aspects of wellness, I would like to share my levels.
On a scale from 1-10.....
Physically, I feel I am at a "6". I do have chronic pain as a result from some health issues. So, I am sometimes physically limited in what I can do. Honestly, my level is much higher than it was a year and a half ago. I have come along way. There was a period of time that my pain was so debilitating that I could not work. I had to prioritize myself first and take the time to go through therapy. This was hard for me to do, as I was so used to helping others heal that I ignored my own health. I am proud of the level I am currently at. It is an ongoing goal to improve my physical level of wellness.
Psychologically, I feel I am at an "8". My thoughts and emotions are very stable and at a healthy place. I do experience stress, especially as a student. I take the time to meditate everyday. This helps me organize my thoughts. I also have learned to express myself in healthy ways.
Spiritually, I feel I am at a "9". I am a very spiritual person, and have always been. I have a very strong relationship with the Big Guy, Angles, and divine energies. I channel and use this in my work. I feel that I am doing "God's work" on a daily basis. I rate myself at a 9 because everyone has room to grow. I have many spiritual goals, including getting my Reiki Master attunement, and becoming ordained after I graduate from Kaplan.
I completed the relaxation exercise for this unit. I was very familiar with what the narrator was describing, so much so that I anticipated what he was going to say next. He guided us through a visualization of the energy systems, AKA chakras. Being a Reiki Practitioner, I work balancing people's chakras using Universal Life Force Energy. There are many ways to balance the chakras, including visualization (which we did in this exercise). I found it beneficial and encourage classmates who did not to try it again. Sometimes it takes awhile to get used to narrated meditations and visualizations. Don't give up, this is something that some people need to practice.
